MEET OUR MUSIC DIRECTOR

Walt Lemiski was a music educator with the Peel Board of Education for over 25 years. He has associate degrees in piano and vocal performance, and a Masters in Music Criticism (specializing in the music reviews of George Bernard Shaw). As an adjudicator, performer and writer he has worked with numerous arts groups including the Niagara Choral Festival, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

In his other life Walt is keenly interested in antiques. He has written books about Canadian Cornflower glass and Vintage Glass Barware. Other writings for antique journals cover topics ranging from calling cards to carnival glassware to sheet music. Walt is an avid gardener and golfer.

Walt has long enjoyed singing in and accompanying numerous choral ensembles.  He has worked with the Bach Elgar Choir, the London Pro Musica, the Milton Choristers, and the Timothy Eaton Choir amongst others.

OUR CHOIR

Music at Mayfield United Church encompasses a wide range of styles and eras – from classical to contemporary to spirituals and world music in the support of the liturgy. Our active choir consists of a 16 voice SATB ensemble. Besides working on weekly anthems & hymns, the choir presents an annual Christmas Cantata.

Our talented group also has a string group, the Spirit Band. Regular musical additions to our services include music on the guitar, harp, piano and organ, as well as vocal solos, duets, and gospel quartets. Our monthly evening Lectio Divina service features a variety of musical offerings in a contemplative service.

Make a joyous noise unto the Lord!
